Dear Friends,

In an effort to address wage disparity in the restaurant industry, and create a more equitable space for all, we are very proud & excited to announce the implementation of our 3% Kitchen Appreciation Fee here at The Tasty.

Over the years, we have succeeded, if not survived, as a team. In addition to the faces you see day-to-day table-side, that team includes our line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers, and we believe every role here is essential to our operation. It has always been our mission to create a business that supports the best interests of our employees and uplifts our community. Like many other restaurants, we have decided to improve upon our practices to help those within our own walls.

Due to the antiquated Massachusetts state laws surrounding tipping and restaurant labor, great wage disparities between the Back of House (BOH) & Front of House (FOH) are all too commonplace. (Many restaurants may have differences of over $20 an hour amongst non-salaried employees.)

Many will ask ‘how is this any different from a gratuity?” or “why not just raise prices?”

While we could simply raise our prices and bury this cost in our menu items, we want to be open about where your money is going: every penny of this 3% fee goes directly to our non-salaried kitchen workers. This will be a tremendous help in providing a better living wage and a more equitable distribution of money.

We thank you for the opportunity to allow us to explain our goals, transparently and honestly. We are truly grateful for your support, and thank you for your continued patronage. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss this change.

Be well,

Nina + Mike Peters
